Postmaster Online

Postmaster Online is a multi featured database manager and email follow up system. It allows you to set up multiple auto follow-up responders (up to 50) and send newsletters and email to your prospects and clients. It has mail merge and more features than a Swiss Army Knife.

When someone requests an auto responder sequence they are automatically added into a contact management system. It also merges their contact information right into the response. It is exactly what an online marketer like myself needs.

The service costs $29.95 per month which is quite reasonable considering I have been spending $19.95 per month on one aweber autoresponder for the last 2 years.

Well I re-signed up for Postmaster Online after giving it a once over when it first came online several months ago.

Re-signed up! Why?

Well because the first time I tried it I really didn't like it. It seemed buggy. It had just been activated and any new web technology needs some stabilizing and "real use"  testing to get all the bugs out of it.

I loved the concept and was very disappointed when it wouldn't work right.

In fairness, since the program had just been started when I first looked, I wanted to take a second look and see how (and if) it was working now. I had nothing to risk but time as they offer an unconditional 30 day money back guarantee.

I sure am glad I did. I am already very impressed with the new set up.

Their support deserves special mention.

There was a minor problem with the set up after I used the secure server to order. At first it wouldn't accept my log in info. Oh no, not again.

Staring me in the face on the order confirmation page was a TOLL FREE TECH SUPPORT PHONE NUMBER. I almost fell over. I can't remember the last time I saw a toll free tech support number on an internet marketing program.

The question was would it get answered? My past experiences with toll free support didn't leave me very optimistic.

I phoned and to my surprise it was instantly answered by a very helpful gentleman by the name of Scott. He quickly found my order, apologized for the server not being immediately set up and promised that he would manually get me going within 5 minutes. He also ended the conversation with a very rare attitude these days. He said "Ed, if you have a need to call back, ask for me by name and I'll take care of you."

WOW! Extremely professional. Even better - 5 minutes later everything was set up just as he promised. At this point I am a very happy camper.

While setting up my multiple signatures I ran into another little glitch. The program wouldn't accept my signatures. Instead of getting frustrated, I picked up the phone and called. A courteous woman answered the phone. 2 friendly people in one day. I thought that I must be dreaming!

I asked for Scott and was put through in a flash.  Scott knew what the problem was as soon as I described what was happening.   He said "Mr. Osworth, it is most likely that your signature file is over 255 characters which is the signature limit."

He was absolutely correct! I went back to work in minutes, rather than the several hours delay email support would have taken.  I am ecstatic. You see, I don't expect everything to work perfectly. I have been doing business on the web too long to expect that anymore.

What it takes to make me happy is customer service that cares, treats me with respect, and has the answers.

Postmaster direct passed the "real world" test with flying colors.

A tech support number with REAL HUMANS is a delight. Their support folks were professional and courteous. This is so rare these days as to be virtually non-existent. Especially in the online world.

It tells me that Postmaster Online is making a huge commitment to insure they have the best program of its type. If they continue this level of support, I'm sure they will be a huge success.

BTW: The Postmaster Online folks had no idea who I was or that I was preparing a review. I even used my wife's name (Kerry) to insure I wasn't recognized and given "special treatment".

I spent the next few hours testing the auto responders, adding in some contacts, testing the "click here to remove" links in the autoresponder emails, creating a few forms for information requests and testing them on the web.

I am happy to report that everything now works as advertised. The only thing I haven't tested yet is importing my databases into the system. I will test that soon and put up my findings.

Update 12/01/00: I have uploaded my databases to Postmaster Online and have had no problems. My databases are quite large. Over 5000 contacts in over 10 categories. I have done some fairly large mailings to 2000-3000 folks at a time and the system has worked excellent.

My favorite feature is that every email that comes out of the system has a link at the bottom that will unsubscribe the recipient. If you have used mailing list services to distribute your newsletters and follow up, as I have, you know how hard it can be for folks to unsubscribe.

The reason is that most folks have more than one email account and list servers will only follow unsubscribe commands that originate from the email that they subscribes from. So they send an "unsubscribe" command and it doesn't get recognized. Then they get angry. Then you have a bad situation on your hands that can take hours to sort out.

With Postmaster Online all they do is click on the link and they are removed. Immediately. No matter where they are doing it from or what email box the letter arrived in.

I feel that these "unsubscribe by clicking here" links are a necessity for doing business online these days. They keep your recipients happy.

Bottom line. After 2 months I am totally happy with the system and the excellent support. Does that mean I have never had a problem? No. Sometimes their server can seem a bit overloaded and slows down to a crawl or times out processing a command, but these are minor irritations.

I can deal with that. Especially when I see the huge amount of time their system is saving me.

Two thumbs up!
